Thomas Cutrofello CD 2019
The Album
After 4 decades of a music career akin to a roller coaster ride, Michael’s upcoming CD, “Thomas Cutrofello” is a joyful combination of sophisticated melodies and poetic lyrics. This is the first release of his own music since “Gravy” (2010) and is much anticipated. Future CD’s will incorporate his love for other genres, including New Wave, Hard Rock, R&B, and even some Techno.
What Michael clearly understands is that music is about communication, whatever genre, whatever path an artist chooses. “It’s about breathing life into a song, it’s about the connection – the audience – and assuring that they are having a good time. It’s about playing great music, hey I know it’s only rock and roll but I like – no – I LOVE it!”
The world needs more joy, and it needs more artists like Michael Butler.
Why “Thomas Cutrofello” ? Sounds like a Bob Dylan album to me
AND
Tom is an elementary school friend, we met in the 4th grade & went though the same schools to the 12th Grade. FB reconnects people, and as I missed my 30th High School reunion due to playing in Copenhagen Denmark that summer, Tom let me know he would be there the day after the reunion. Having someone from my home town in my audience & him telling me about the reunion - plus Fb - I felt I was part of it & didn’t miss a thing. Jump forward back to NYC we bumped into each other at a Toy Fair and Tom asked me if I could come up with a sorta “Candy Crush” theme for a similar product he was working on. The project never got made but, I had this instrumental song with a working title of “Thomas Cutrofello”, I decided to just call it that. Jump even more forward, it’s time to name the CD & I went this title, the one that would give me the most interesting Story to tell

Beautiful music. Your voice, guitar and sound remind me of John Lennon. I especially liked Denmark and Me, Happy Birthday Joe, and Rescued. Thomas Cutrofello (the song) was a trippy voyage—excellent.

So great. Very Beatle-y-with a sprinkle of XTC and Blur. So different than hearing you sing "happy" or the like. It has a wide appeal.

Do you know about WFUVs ny slice? They are accepting local musician tracks and if they like it they play it on the radio and pr you. etc

Vocal sounds cool like Bowie or Lennon but that just my first impression will take a deeper dive and listen at the gym thanks for sending the tunes over

Paul’s son Connor is really into music. Everything except current music.
He kept referencing different artists that he thought Mike’s voice sounded like. He was really into the background rhythm too. He analyzed & read the CD holder from top to bottom.
Have to say it Mike’s CD was he hit of the night.
Ailish and I were dancing in the living room.
If your family’s ears were burning it was because everyone was asking me questions about your family

Somehow reminds me a lot of Sean Lennon's first album 'into the sun' probably because of it's youthful exuberant positive energy. But I also hear Rolling Stones, Randy Newman, Dylan, Joe Cocker and of course John Lennon in there as well, but done in your own signature style. The overall feel has a sort of White Album meets happy low fi street musician to it. I mean that in a good way. I'm very proud of you man, as you should be yourself. Keep up the good work. P.S. stand out track for me at least is 'Each and Every Day'.
His music has soul and meaning to me. He is a great artist and you need to hear his music!

So happy Michael agreed to let My DInner with Schwartzey use some of his music - and that he is appearing in the film singing and playing his guitar too! Have loved Michale and his music for 25 years or so and it has been so great to collaborate with him on this project. BUY MICHAEL's MUSIC!!!!!
